Intellivision “still working on” Amico despite dead trademark confusion

Intellivision has assured that work on its upcoming but oft-delayed Amico console is still underway following confusion caused when the trademark seemed to have been dropped.

VideoGamesChronicle reported on Monday that the trademark for 'Intellivision Amico' was listed as 'abandoned' on June 20, due to Intellivision's failure to file a Statement of Use with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

At the time, it was speculated that Intellivision had given up on both the trademark and the console itself, but CEO Phil Adam has since told IGN this is not the case.

Adam told the site Intellivision is "still working on the console."

He attributed to the trademark confusion to the USPTO, which he said "is usually pretty slow in updating."

IGN confirmed the trademark is once again listed as live, with the filing date updated to June 30, 2022.

The Amico has been through several issues since it was announced in 2018.

Originally due for release in October 2020, it has been delayed several times, currently expected to start shipping later this year.

An SEC filing in February revealed Intellivision Entertainment has yet to generate any revenue and might cease operations after July.

The company attempted to run a crowdfunding campaign, but scrapped it a few weeks later, having only raised 1% of the $5 million it was aiming for.

Last month, it was reported Intellivision had laid off an unknown number of employees to cut costs, and had begun licensing out its IP to continue funding development.
