God of War Ragnarök to release this November

Highly anticipated sequel to launch on PS4 and PS5

God of War Ragnarök, the long-awaited sequel to 2018's God of War, will launch on November 9, 2022, PlayStation has announced.

The release date was revealed today via a blog post, alongside a new trailer. Sony Santa Monica's title is set to release both on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Several editions, from standard to collector, were also unveiled and will be available for pre-order from July 15, 2022.

This follows months of speculation that God of War Ragnarök would be delayed again, after a number of high profile games initially planned for a 2022 release were recently pushed back.

In March, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was delayed to spring 2023.

In May, Bethesda's Starfield and Redfall both were pushed back to 2023 as well, and are now expected in the first half of the year.

Square Enix also announced today that PlayStation exclusive Forspoken was going to be delayed from its October 2022 release window. The action-RPG is now expected on January 24, 2023.

At the beginning of the year, we looked at why 2022 was potentially shaping up to be one of video games' biggest ever years, but by May we started to wonder if that was still the case, with so many delays announced.

A couple of weeks ago, we asked developers about the challenges they were facing, trying to understand what has happened to all the video games.

God of War Ragnarök was initially planned for 2021 but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
