Mario Strikers: Battle League shoots straight to No.1 | UK Boxed Charts

The Quarry debuts at No.4

The latest Mario sports game, Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, scores a No.1 in the UK boxed charts.

The Switch title's launch week sales are 20% lower than last year's Mario Golf: Super Rush, and 6% below 2018's Mario Tennis Aces. Considering the popularity of football in the UK (even though we're out of season), that might come as a bit of a surprise. There is a World Cup scheduled for December, so it'll be interesting to see if Nintendo does anything to capitalise on that later in the year.

The next new entry in the charts is The Quarry by Supermassive Games (and published by 2K). It's a modest retail launch for the game, but we'll get a better idea of its overall performance once the digital data comes in at the end of the week. 85% of physical sales were on PlayStation platforms. Xbox is a more digital heavy platform than PlayStation, but also this game is a spirtual successor to Until Dawn, which was a PlayStation exclusive.

Elsewhere, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga rises to No.2 despite a 7% sales slip, Horizon Forbidden West drops to No.3 after a 21% sales fall, and Nintendo Switch Sports is down three places to No.5 after a 36% drop.

There were a couple of Nintendo Switch games that surged up the charts this week due to some stock pushes. Kirby and The Forgotten Land is up to No.6 after a 91% sales increase (it's the third consecutive week of significant sales growth for the title). Meanwhile, Mario Golf: Super Rush is back in the charts at No.16 with a 291% sales jump.

Recent release Sniper Elite 5 is down to No.12 this week after a 44% sales drop.
