Hideo Kojima receives the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts
The Death Stranding creator is the second game industry individual to receive the award from the government of Japan's Agency of Cultural Affairs
Yesterday Kojima Productions announced that studio head, Hideo Kojima has received the minister of education, culture, sports, science and technology award for fine arts in the media arts category.
In a Twitter post, the game studio said that he was honored with the 72nd title from the government of Japan's Agency of Cultural Affairs.
"The Award for Fine Arts is a historical award given by the Agency for Cultural Affairs every year since 1950 to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in various fields of the arts and who have opened up new frontiers," the press release said.
It also noted that this is the second time that a game creator has received the award, the first was long-time Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto in 2010.
As translated and reported by Siliconera, members of Japan's Agency of Cultural Affairs highlighted Death Stranding and Kojima's career long approach to game direction.
His work as a game creator began in 1986 when he was hired as a designer by Konami and went on to develop Metal Gear, which was launched in the following year.
