Microsoft among suitors for Discord in reported $10b deal
Multiple reports suggest chat startup is in talks for a potential sale
Discord is said to be courting potential buyers, Microsoft among them, at a price that could exceed $10 billion.
According to a report from Venturebeat, sources within Discord claim that the firm is talking to "multiple parties" about a sale, with one negotiation now in its final stages.
A separate report from Bloomberg puts Microsoft in the frame as a potential buyer -- another huge acquisition following its recently completed $7.5 billion buyout of ZeniMax Media.
Both reports place the value of any potential deal at more than $10 billion, but Bloomberg's sources claim that Discord is "more likely to go public than sell itself."
Representatives from Discord and Microsoft declined to comment on both reports.
Discord last raised funding in December 2020, a $140 million round that valued the games-focused chat platform at $7 billion.
An interview with The Wall Street Journal this month put Discord's 2020 revenue at $130 million, up from $45 million the year before. However, the company's CEO, Jason Citron, said that it had yet to turn an annual profit.
