PlayStation Now arrives on Samsung TVs

PlayStation 3 games now available on non-Sony devices

The PlayStation Now digital gaming service has broken free from Sony devices and is now available on Samsung's range of smart televisions across North America and Canada.

PlayStation Now, which allows gamers to play selected PlayStation 3 titles, will be available as an app on the smart televisions but will require a DualShock 4 controller.

The service starts at $19.99 per month or a three-month plan for $44.99. Samsung smart television owners will get the chance to try the service for free for a week.

PlayStation Now officially launched in North America in January this year. Sega, Warner Brothers, Take-Two, Namco Bandai, Tecmo Koei, and Capcom have all supported the service.

"It's not necessarily the future of PlayStation, but it is a philosophical change and a reality that we want our gaming experiences to be broadly experienced," said Sony Computer Entertainment America's marketing VP John Koller of the service in 2014.

"We've been very open and bullish on physical consoles. So I don't think PS Now necessarily disenfranchises future consoles in any way. But it does, I think, show our willingness to try and focus on content as primary. Really, again, focusing on the gamer first - obviously they want great content, great experiences. Those experiences can be had in many different places. So it's more of an open position now."

Rachel, or anyone else - how is PSNow actually doing? Anyone know? It seems like a great deal, just not sure the demand is there for older games. Seems like the TV space is a better potential market - folks that see these as new games, instead of old ones.
